How to Change Engine Oil on 1994 - 2004 Ford Mustang

Required Materials:

  1. Oil filter
  2. 5 quarts of 5W-20 full synthetic motor oil
  3. Jack and jack stands
  4.  15-millimeter socket
  5. Oil filter wrench
  6. Oil drain pan

Performing the oil change:

  1. Park the Ford Mustang on a leveled ground.
  2. Open the hood, locate the oil filler cap and remove it.
  3. Remove the oil dipstick. This is because when you remove the oil drain plug, you don’t want the engine to be a sealed system. 
  4. Lift the front end of your vehicle.
  5. Locate the oil drain bolt underneath the Mustang and remove it using a 15 millimeter socket.
  6. Place the oil drain pan before you completely remove the oil drain plug.
  7. Remove the oil drain plug and let the engine oil drain completely into the drain pan.
  8. Once the draining is done, reinstall the oil drain plug.
  9. Locate and remove the oil filter. It is located on the driver side of the vehicle, under the hood, right next to the harmonic balancer. Make sure that you place the oil drain pan before removing the oil filter.
  10. Lubricate the rubber gasket of the new oil filter and then install it.
  11. Remove the jack stands and lower the Ford Mustang.
  12. Pour 5 quartz of 5W-20 motor oil into the engine and reinstall the oil filler cap once done.
  13. Start the engine and check the oil level.
