How to Change Oil on 2014 - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Required Materials:

  1. OEM Oil filter
  2. 5 – 6 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil
  3. Jack and jack stands
  4.  15-millimeter socket
  5. Oil drain pan

Performing the oil change:

  1. Park the Chevrolet Traverse on leveled ground. Let the car sit for about 10 minutes for the engine to cool down and the oil to set.
  2. Open the hood and look at the center of the engine. There you will find the oil cap. Remove the oil cap by hand.
  3. You need to gain access to the vehicle. So, grab a floor jack and lift the front end. The lifting points are located in the owner’s manual.
  4. Then, place the car on jack stands for safety reasons.
  5. Get a drain pan under the vehicle and have it on standby.
  6. Get under the vehicle and look for the oil drain plug. It is in the middle of the engine. Remove it by using a socket and get the drain pan in place.
  7. Let it drain for about 20 minutes and then reinstall the drain bolt.
  8. Remove the old oil filter and install a new OEM oil filter. The oil filter is usually located next to the oil drain bolt.
  9. Lower your Chevrolet Traverse and remove the jack stands.
  10. Pour 5 – 7 quartz of 5W-30 motor oil into the engine and reinstall the oil cap once done.
  11. Start the engine and turn it off after 1 minute.
  12. Measure the level of the oil after 10 – 15 minutes. Pour more if needed.
