How to Change Oil on 2006 - 2011 Chevrolet Captiva

Required Materials:

  1. Oil filter
  2. 5 – 8 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil
  3. Jack and jack stands
  4.  15-millimeter socket
  5. Oil drain pan

Performing the oil change:

  1. Park the Chevrolet Captiva on leveled ground.
  2. Open the hood and remove the oil cap. This way you will be allowing air to enter the oil system so the old oil can drain easily.
  3. Lift the front end of your vehicle. You can find the lifting points in the owner’s manual. However, if you are able to get under the vehicle without lifting it, great.
  4. Locate the oil drain bolt. It is usually located underneath the front end of the vehicle.
  5. Remove it using a 15-millimeter socket.
  6. Place the drain pan to catch the old dirty oil.
  7. Reinstall the oil drain bolt and tighten it to spec.
  8. Locate and remove the old filter. The oil filter is closeby to the drain bolt.
  9. Reinstall the new oil filter. Make sure to lubricate the new oil filter before installing it.
  10. Remove the jack stands and lower the Chevrolet Captiva
  11. Pour 5 – 8 quartz (depending on oil capacity) of 5W-30 motor oil into the engine and reinstall the oil cap once done.
  12. Let the oil settle and check the oil level. Add more if needed.
